25 Cooking and Kitchen Hacks, Tips And Tricks Every Woman or Chef Must Know

Today I was on Facebook when a came across a fantastic article which actually talks about kitchen hacks that every woman, chef, man and in fact everyone who uses the kitchen must know.

I personally didn't know most of those things and I think our fans and readers will find this really interesting, it goes down from correcting simple errors in cooking to achieving perfection and also proper management of kitchen items and how to cub situations like small kitchen accidents.

As a man that loves the kitchen, I'll reveal in this article 25 kitchen tips and tricks I learned that are life savers.

Whether you like it or not, The kitchen is a vital part of our everyday life as humans and africans in particular and these tips will ensure better dietary management to a large extent.

Don't forget, your health is your wealth and your diet holds 50% of your health. So here it goes.

25 KITCHEN TIPS AND TRICKS

1. If you happen to over-salt a pot of soup, just drop in a peeled potato. The potato will absorb the excess salt.

2. When boiling eggs, add a pinch of salt to keep the shells from cracking.

3. Never put citrus fruits (Oranges, Lemons,  limes, etc) or tomatoes in the fridge. The low temperatures degrade the aroma and flavor of these fruits. (That's why our tomatoes don't last in the fridge)

4. To clean iron cook-ware, don’t use detergents. Just scrub them with salt and a clean, dry paper towel.

5. When storing empty airtight containers, throw in a pinch of salt to keep them from getting stinky.

6. If you are making gravy (stew) and accidentally burn it, just pour it into a clean pan and continue cooking it. Add sugar a little at a time, tasting as you go to avoid 'over-sugaring' it. The sugar will cancel out the burned taste.

7. Burned a pot of rice? Just place a piece of white bread on top of the rice for 5-10 minutes to draw out the burned flavour. Be careful not to scrape the burned pieces off of the bottom of the pan when serving the rice.

8. Before you chop fresh red peppers, rub a little vegetable oil into your hands and your skin won’t absorb the spiciness.

9. If you aren’t sure how fresh your eggs are, place them in about four inches of water. Eggs that stay on the bottom are fresh. If only one end tips up, the egg is less fresh and should be used soon. If it floats, it’s past the fresh stage.

10. To banish ants from the kitchen, find out where they are coming in and cover the hole with petroleum jelly (Vaseline). Ants won’t trek through the jelly. If they are coming under a door, draw a line on the floor with chalk. The little bugs also won’t cross a line of chalk.

11. Don’t store your bananas in a bunch or in a fruit bowl with other fruits. Separate your bananas and place each in a different location.

(including other bananas) to ripen quickly. Separating them will keep them fresh longer.

12. To keep potatoes from budding in the bag, put an apple in with them.

13. If you manage to have some leftover wine, cocktail drinks at the end of the evening, freeze it in ice cube trays for easy addition to sauces (white wine works wonders in sauces, i don't joke with them) in the future.

14. After boiling pasta or potatoes, cool the water and use it to water your house plants. The water contains nutrients that your plants will love.

15. When defrosting meat from the freezer, pour some vinegar over it. Not only does it tenderize the meat; it will also bring down the freezing temperature of the meat and cause it to thaw quicker.
Note: every woman should have vinegar in her kitchen.

16. Do you cry while peeling off onions, then try this. After peeling off your onions, refrigerate the onions for at least 5minutes, then dice it. You will be glad you did.

17. For aluminium pans that are looking dull, just boil some apple peels in them. This will brighten up the aluminum and make your house smell yummy.

18. If your salt is becoming lumpy, put a few grains of rice in with it to absorb excess moisture.

19. Always keep an aloe vera plant in your kitchen. It’s invaluable when you scrape your arm or burn your finger. Just break off a leaf and rub the gel from the inside on the injury.

20. When making a soup, sauce, that ends up too fatty or greasy, drop in an ice cube. The ice will attract the fat, which you can then scoop out. This works wonders.

21. To reuse cooking oil without tasting whatever was cooked in the oil previously, cook a 1/4″ piece of ginger in the oil. It will remove any remaining flavours and odours.

22. If your milk always goes bad before you can finish it, try adding a pinch of salt to the carton when you first open it. It will stay fresh days longer.

23. If two drinking glasses become stuck together after stacking, it’s not impossible to unstick them. Just put ice in the inner glass and dunk the outer glass in warm water. The warm glass will expand and the cold glass will contract, making the glasses separate easily.

24. For splinters under the fingernail, soaking the affected finger in a bowl of milk with a piece of bread in it, it will help .

25: If your soup or sauce is a little sour, add substantial amount of garlic or onion and boil for a long time. This will help reduce odour and give it taste.

Effects Of Postinor 2 Drug For Prevention of Pregnancy

Postinor 2 is a medication that prevents pregnancy if you shine the sperm into the ovary, whether intentional or not. It can prevent pregnancy 95% in the first 24 hours after intercourse, it is used as a form of emergency contraception (more commonly known as a morning after pill).

Postinor-2 is formulated to function in a manner similar to the female hormone progesterone allowing for prevention of pregnancy if taken within a reasonable period of time.

Generally, it is recommended that Postinor-2 be taken no later than three days after having unprotected sex.

Abstaining is Always the best and safest way to prevent pregnancy, or better still make use of a condom, but if things are already out of hand it's advised you see a doctor instead.

However, For persons that just can't help it,  I employ you whether you're male or female to always walk around with postinor-2 pill because you never know when you will meet a match. And for the guys, I believe you don’t want to receive that “We need to Talk” text after some weeks.

This is a big fashion ‘no-no’. There are some dressing rules which are to be strictly followed if you want your personality to stand out. Just like the middle button should be kept shut, the last one should always be kept open. And the first one depends clearly on your mood.

2. Ladies you are allowed to unbutton not more than two buttons.


Whether it’s a shirt or a blouse with buttons, unbuttoning only two buttons from the top is appropriate fashion.


3. 2 accessories like necklace and earring is enough, 3 or 4 accessories in one look are too much.


Wearing matching earrings, bracelet, a necklace is all too much. Mostly it’s advisable to skip the necklace.

4. Your tie should be tied proportionately to make your personality look good.


Dressing up needs a lot of practice. The correct proportion would be the tip of the tie touching just slightly below the waist.

5. Go with either mini skirt or cleavage, not both.


A mini skirt is s*xy and a little cleavage is classy. But obviously, both don’t go together as it becomes too vulgar then or should I say cheap, Makes people categorize you as a Who*e.

6. Forget the tie.


Some dressing rules are just eminent. And wearing a tie with shirt, when there is no jacket just destroys the personality.

7. Cleavage show in office is not necessary.


It just portrays you as an attention seeker, making a bad impact on your personality. The cleavage in your office shirts should not be deeper than 4 inches from collar bone.

8. Tucked-in shirt should always be complemented with a belt.


Otherwise, the look just seems incomplete. To be a perfect gentleman you need to work on dressing first. Because that’s what talks about your personality for you, in creating the first impression.

9. Your belt and shoe colours should match each other.


That’s like one of the fashion Bible rules. Guys, never go out with unmatching belt and shoes. That just makes the whole attire look unbalanced.

10. No tags should be left hanging from the dress.


Do you want people to know, for how much you bought a dress? Do you want them to judge you? So remember to pull out all the tags before stepping out in a dress.

11. Your naked skin should not be seen while sitting.


For that, your socks are supposed to be long enough. Ankle length socks would not help.

12. Spaghetti straps do not fall into formal rules.


It is highly inappropriate for office use. You might wear a top without sleeves, but it should cover the shoulder.

Easy and Working Home Remedies Of Toothache

Toothache is one of the most painful health maladies. No amount of literal and grammatical expression can best describe how traumatic toothache is. Those who had experienced the pain in the past knows what am saying, likewise to those who are still facing the unbearable trauma of toothache.

The pain usually comes in different ways; it could come in a sharp form, throbbing manner and other forms. But the fact remains that, the pain of toothache is inexplicable and inexpressible. I was once a victim of this perilous ailment, hence the reason why i opted to write about it. There are numerous causes of toothache. Tooth decay, Gum disease, Temperature sensitivity, Tooth growth (in Infants), Tooth infection, An abnormal bite, Rough brushing, Tooth cracking are the major causes of toothache.

Rough brushing results in irritated, inflammed, and bleeding gums. If extreme pressure is constantly used when brushing, it can cause gums to recede and can make teeth unstable, resulting in severe pain. It’s advisable to adopt proper brushing techniques and be sure to only use soft bristled toothbrushes. Don’t brush like a crazy person wrestling with his tooth. Brush gently with a recommended tooth paste to avoid injuring any tissue/organ in your mouth!

Undergoing a complete oral examination to determine the cause of your tooth trauma is also very important due to the fact that there are other causes of toothache, apart from the ones listed above.

In addition to the above expositions, it is also crucial to note that bacteria with harmful oral impact get into our mouth and these harmful bacteria contributes immensely to the heaviness of tooth trauma. Aside bacteria, other pathogenic micro organisms often finds their way into our mouth even without our knowledge. The alarming aspect of it, is that most of these micro organisms reproduce regularly and they have harmful effects on our oral environment. The more these micro organisms increases in number, the more they cause more damage to your dental tissues. This is one of the reasons why organic substances with anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties are recommended as agents that are capable of preventing and eliminating toothache.


In this article, I’d list some home remedies for toothache. These remedies can help to heal or reduce the pain of toothache due to their anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and anti-bacterial properties. Some of these home remedies can permanently heal dental diseases, most especially when the ailment hasn’t gotten to the worst state. Below are some of the home remedies of toothache that works with alacrity:

1. FRESH ONIONS.

Onion offers antiseptic and anti-microbial properties that are known to kill bacteria and other toxic micro-organisms. Its antiseptic nature helps to reduce inflammation in the mouth and the inflammatory reduction calms the pain of toothache.

To use this method, kindly cut a piece of fresh onion and place it on the affected area for atleast 3 minutes. Do this repeatedly and you’d be glad you did. You can alternatively chew the piece of fresh onion till you feel relieved.

2. LEMONS AND LIMES.

Lemons and limes can also provide relief from a toothache. Though they both have sour taste and are acidic in nature. High amounts of citric acid and vitamin C present in both fruits work to destroy bacteria and support the immune system.

In order to use lemons and limes for tooth pain relief, prepare the lemons and limes by cutting them into slices, bite them partially to release the juice, and then rinse your mouth with the juice. Afterward, allow the juice to rest in the affected area for as long as you can before swallowing the juice.

3. MIXTURE OF SALT AND WATER.

The mixture of salt and warm water is a natural disinfectant, and it can help loosen food particles that may hide in between your tooth.

Most harmful bacteria cannot survive under hypertonic condition (High salt solution). This is obviously the reason why food venerable to bacteria are preserved using salt. Salt and water rinse helps to flush out unwanted and harmful materials, including bacteria from one’s mouth, thereby reducing the pain of toothache.

To use this potent method, mix 1/2 teaspoon (tsp) of salt into a glass of warm water and use it as a mouthwash. Do it repeatedly till a relief is experienced.

4. GUAVA LEAVES.

The leaves of guava tree can also avert oral inflammation. The anti-inflammatory properties of guava leaves helps to heal gum disease and other dental maladies.

To use this approach, boil some leaves of guava tree and rinse your mouth with the liquid obtained from the boiling. You can drink if you wish. Guava leaves is naturally medicinal, so drinking it has no negative effect.

5. COCONUT OIL.

It has antiseptic effects and can be used to draw the infection out and help the sore spot on your gum deflate. Just apply the coconut oil on the affected area for quick action. The coconut oil can also be used internally.

6. HYDROGEN PEROXIDE (H2O2)

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is one of the most effective natural cure for toothache or tooth infection. The hydrogen peroxide will penetrate though the tooth and the extra oxygen molecules will kill the microbes inside the tooth, thereby reducing the pain of toothache. This is done due to its anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties. In addition to killing bacteria, hydrogen peroxide can also reduce plaque and heal bleeding gums.

Ensure you properly dilute the hydrogen peroxide. To do this, mix 3 percent hydrogen peroxide with equal parts water and use it as a mouthwash. Don’t wallow it.

7. GARLIC.

For decades, garlic has been widely recognized and used for its medicinal properties. Not only can it kill harmful bacteria that causes dental plaque, but it can also act as a pain reliever.

To use this method, just crush a garlic clove to create a paste and apply it to the affected area. You may also add a bit of salt. You can alternatively chew a clove of fresh garlic.

8. ICE OR ICE CUBE.

Cold compress can help to relieve toothache. This remedy is just for an emergency purpose. It doesn’t guarantee permanent healing of tooth infection or other dental plaques.

You can use this by pressing a cold compress wrapped in a dish towel to your cheek for a few minutes. Repeat this process every few hours till the pain finally calms.

9. ALCOHOL.

Alcoholic solvent like Whiskey and brandy can equally help to reduce tooth trauma. This home remedy is recommended for those above the age of 22. Don’t use this approach if you’re below 22years.

To use this, kindly rinse your mouth with any high alcoholic solvent and ensure you don’t swallow it. You can do this repeatedly without swallowing the alcohol.

10. CUCUMBER.

Cucumber is another wonderful home remedy of toothache that works effectively. Cucumber is known for its hemostatic and soothing effects, which is why you have probably heard about it as an excellent remedy for under-eye dark circles. When used for a toothache remedy, its hemostatic effects help lessen blood flow to the affected tooth, ultimately lessening and soothing pain.

To use this, bring a cucumber to room temperature (Normal temperature) if it’s extremely cool, cold cucumber can worsen pain. Then slice a fresh piece and hold it over the affected area for few minutes.

Alternatively, you can mash up a piece of cucumber with a bit of sea salt and then pack it around the aching tooth.

The home remedies listed above functions effectively to relief the pain of any dental disease. All the above toothache remedies are all stop gap measures until you see your dentist and get the source of infection cleared up. If one of the above doesn’t work for you, it’s advisable to try other methods.You should also talk to your dentist before using any of the aforementioned remedies if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any medical condition that may be impacted by herbal ingredients.

Always recall that bacteria feed mostly on sugary foods, so try to minimize the rate of sugary material you consume.

I actually learned from what I see than from what I was told so I almost ended up quarreling with a parent, you see me using parent because I was raised by a single parent and they were separated so at almost every point in my life I had been around just a parent.

Parents show understand that Demanding of your children what you do not do yourself is bound to result in failure.

Parents are their children’s first role models. Even older children, who model after their peers, continue to look up to their parents for exemplar behavior. “If Mom isn’t making Fajr regularly, why does she expect me to make salat on time?” your child might ponder.

5. EXPECTING PERFECTION 

Often, when we catch our child misbehaving, we wonder why he’s acting in such an unpleasant way.
We must remember that none of us is perfect. We aren’t, and neither are our children.

It can be helpful to remember that we want Allah Ta’ala to be merciful and patient with us when we make mistakes. We should try to enact these same virtues when managing our children.

When we accept the fact that our children will err and disappoint us at times, this helps us accept them as fallible humans and not view them as simply bad children. We are here to guide our children to be God fearing, but they have their own mind, desires, and temperament–it’s not easy to avoid sneaking into the cookie jar for one more of Mom’s delicious chocolate chip cookies.

HABITS THAT DAMAGES THE LIVER

Bad habits can affect the ability of the liver to repair itself. Here are some habits that can damage your liver.

1. ALCOHOLISM  

Excess alcohol intake reduces the ability of the liver to remove toxins from the body. It will make the liver to focus mainly on converting alcohol to a less toxic form and will lead to inflammation and fatty liver disease.

2. OVER MEDICATION

Consumption of drugs in excess can gradually harm your liver and will lead to severe liver failure. High doses of acetaminophen, which is commonly available without prescription can cause liver damage when taken continuously for several days.

3. SMOKING

The chemicals present in cigarette reach the liver and cause oxidative stress producing free radicals that damage liver cells. It will also cause fibrosis, a process in which the liver develops excess scar-like tissues.

4. UNHEALTHY DIET 

Avoid fatty foods and include fruits and vegetables in your diet. They are a good source of beta-carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc and selenium, which keep your liver healthy. Processed foods contain additives and artificial sweeteners.

5. SLEEPLESSNESS

Our body usually goes into a repair and detoxification mode when we are sleeping. Lack of sleep can cause oxidative stress to the liver. So try to get sound sleep of minimum eight hours a day.

6. OBESITY AND POOR NUTRITION

Your eating habits can affect your liver health directly. Eating too many wrong foods causes fats to build up in the liver. Accumulation of fats can lead to inflammation and liver damage.

7. OVERDOSE OF  NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS

Even nutritional supplements and certain herbs are harmful for the liver in excess amount. An overdose of vitamin A can lead to liver damage.

8. NOT TAKING VACCINATION

Hepatitis is one of the major diseases that affects the liver. If you are not taking vaccination for Hepatitis, you are risking your liver health.

How To Get The Abdominal V-Shape For Men

Many men aspire to have the V shape that you get from working out the lower abdominal and oblique. The abdominal V also known as the “sex lines” is no easy feat.


However, with dedication and repetition of certain exercises can get you Very cut down there.

Getting the abdominal V is two fold.

BODY FAT

The first thing you need to focus on is your body fat percentage. Even a bit of fat in that area will hide the V shape from coming through. Therefore, as a guy your body fat should be in the six to thirteen percent body fat percentage. You can get these results by doing high intensity interval training.
This involves pushing your metabolism to it’s highest possible state by switching from high intensity and medium intensity.

EXERCISES

The second part of getting the V shape involves doing exercises that target the lower abdominals.

Listed below are some of the exercises you can do.


  1. Hanging Leg Raises: Hang from a bar, with your legs straight and crunch up.
  2. Hanging Russian Twist: While hanging, twist your body from left to right to target lower abs and the oblique muscles.
  3. Renegade Rows: Go in a plank position and bring each arm up and raise the elbows to the ceiling while looking down.
